The injection of Botox or other FDA approved neurotoxins is within the scope of practice for general dentists who are appropriately trained and NOT exclusively within the scope of medicine or osteopathy per the Tennessee Attorney General.

This is a unique course that features head and neck dissection and will leave you competent to begin botox treatment in your office. These are participation courses....bring a patient. Proper consent and health history is needed. Contact Dr. Gary Woodall for forms needed.

In the fall of 2014 the TN Board of Dentistry cited the TN Attorney General’s opinion that the injection of Botox or other FDA approved neurotoxins is within the scope of practice for general dentists who are appropriately trained and NOT exclusively within the scope of medicine or osteopathy.

The basic training Participation Course will teach you to:

  • Identify specifically the areas of the aging face and features that can be improved by the use of neurotoxins -

  • Conduct a thorough consultation to evaluate the potential need for and assess the suitability of facial injectables for a given patient

  • Identify muscles of facial expression and muscles of mastication in a human cadaver* specimen -U

  • nderstand the various protocols associated with neurotoxins -

  • Acquire the technical skill to perform these injections through “hands-on” training -

  • Avoid, recognize and manage adverse events -

  • Understand CDC guidelines for proper asepsis in medication reconstitution and multiuse vials -

  • Correctly document treatment – in writing and photographically

The Advanced Participation Course: Participation course covers all cosmetic neurotoxin applications of the face and neck. A cadaver review is included for a critical three dimensional appreciation of how the muscles are arranged in the face. Included in this course is gender dosing, decade specific facial aging as well as dosing for all three currently available neurotoxins. -Discuss and identify characteristic aging patterns in the decades of adulthood -Describe the brow position and architecture for both the male and female -Discuss adverse events and their potential correction -Differentiate the dosing requirements between abobotulinum toxin a and onabotulinum toxin a

*Anyone enrolled in the Botox course for the first time should not be enrolled in the advanced course

Completion of basic injectable training as well as at least one year of experience in treating patients with facial injectables is a required prerequisite for day two.

FACES is the only training offered in this discipline which regularly integrates actual cadaver study (not video-taped) with live patient injections.
